Asian Studies

Asian Studies is an interdisciplinary major that explores the languages, cultures, economics, history, geography, and politics of Asian countries. By taking courses from several disciplines, students acquire a variety of analytical tools and examine issues and problems from multiple perspectives. The Asian Studies program offers an undergraduate major, an undergraduate certificate/minor and a graduate certificate. Students often combine an Asian Studies degree or certificate with another major field of study. In addition, students may participate in study abroad programs in Asia.

Regional expertise and language proficiency enhances our students' competitiveness in an increasingly international marketplace; these skills are highly valued in business, industry, federal and local government, nonprofit organizations, and research institutions. The Asian Studies degree also provides a firm foundation for further graduate training or a professional degree in business, journalism, international affairs, education, and law.
