Welcome:

The Homeland Security Program is jointly sponsored by the Charles Phelps Taft Research Center, the College of Arts & Sciences, and the Department of Political Science. The idea for this program grew out of discussions and interviews with State and Local Government Emergency Management Officials in the State of Ohio and Northern Kentucky. These discussions confirmed the need for regional organizations throughout the nation that complemented the mission of the Department of Homeland Security. The initial focus is the Midwest. Federal, state, and local agencies must apply the new domestic security policies to a matrix of inland waterways complex infrastructure systems. There is also the added challenge of integrating extensive private sector production and service facilities into the new security network.

This Homeland Security Program is multifaceted. This program includes:

  • A service organization
  • Research capabilities
  • Graduate and undergraduate certificate programs in security studies and homeland security
